Collection Calendar is out for 2011-12

Did you get yours yet? This calendar has a ton of great useful information. I am very conscientious about recycling in our house. The kids don’t like it that much but “c’est la vie”.

This calendar has all the dates of the different pick ups in your area but also contains great useful information about what you can put in and what you can’t put in the specific bins.

Collection Calendar Ottawa 2011-12

Facts: Did you know that in 2010 the residents in the city of Ottawa have diverted 67,000 tonnes of recycling from the landfill sites? That is very impressive!! (blue box 16,600 tonnes & black box 51,000 tonnes) That is a lot of recycling materials. The average number of households per day per truck is 1,500. The average distance traveled per garbage truck is 150 kilometers. There are 158,000 stops each day for collection of recycling, green bins and garbage. They better have good brakes on those trucks!

Don’t forget that the Give Away Weekend takes place on Saturday June 4th & Sunday June 5th, 2011. Set your unwanted items at the curb during Give Away Weekend.

Keep an eye out for the calendar, coming to a mail box near you and I invite you to read it from cover to cover to get a lot of great information about garbage collection and recycling. We can all do our part in helping reduce our landfills.
