Orleans Watermain Link

The city of Ottawa is in the final stages of completing Class Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Orleans Watermain Link (OWL). The OWL is needed to improve the reliability of water supply to the city’s East End and to meet capacity needs for future urban growth.

Several alternatives for the link have been identified and evaluated based on the wide range of criteria. The map below shows the preliminary preferred route for the OWL. The local alignement may change as part of the design process following the completion of the EA.

Fall Maintenance Tips for your home

Fall is here and looks like winter won’t be too far behind. Inspecting your home and regular maintenance of your home will ensure that you will be able to enjoy it for years to come. This can also reduce your upkeep costs by doing the maintenance before the big costs happen.

Here are a few things you should be doing in the Fall:
- clean leaves from your eavesthroughs and roofs
- check downspouts to make sure the water drains properly from your roof
- make sure that the ground around your home slopes away from the house to avoid water penetration
- winterize your outdoor furniture, landscaping, protect young trees for winter
- Drain and store your outdoor hoses, and make sure they are NOT connected to the bid. Close the inside valve and keep the outside tap open
- cover your A/C unit – this will avoid ice buildup during the winter
- check your chimney for any obstructions
- make sure your outside doors all shut properly and replace if needed any weather stripping
- ensure all windows and skylights are closed properly
- replace window screens with storm windows (if needed)
- check your furnace filter – it should be replaced regularly to make sure your furnace will work to it’s full potential
- have your furnace verified by a qualified service company to avoid any surprises during the cold months
- check your smoke detectors as well to make sure they are functional

These are just a few tips and tricks that would be good for you to take care of. It will only take a few minutes of your time but could save you lots of money in the long run. Make it part of your routine and it will be a breeze.

Do you live in Convent Glen or Orleans Wood?

If you live in Convent Glen or Orleans Wood, then you should be reading this post.

I have lived in Convent Glen for the past 15 years. We have moved 3 times since then, but every time we were looking for our next home we knew that it had to be in Convent Glen. Why do you ask? Well it’s because we love the area. There are many parks, great schools, easy access to the highway, close to the river and the list goes on.

Do you love the area as much as I do? If yes then why not get involved. We are currently getting a local Community Association together to keep us all informed of what is going on in our community. Tiana Dargent has been leading the pack to create our Community Association.

The next meeting will be held:

Date: Tuesday October 4th
Time: 7:00pm
Location: 255 Centrum room 342

Why not get involved in YOUR community?

Hope to see you there!
